Everyone loves guacamole, especially with tortilla chips. This healthier version of a classic guacamole recipe sneaks cooked frozen edamame beans into the mix, to create an easy, creamy and delicious snack that moms can feel great about serving their kids. 

Guacamole gets a healthy boost with the addition of edamame beans. These yummy little green beans are packed with protein and anti-oxidants, making this healthy guacamole recipe a delicious way to sneak key vitamins and minerals into your kids. Your family will love the creamy taste and they'll never notice the difference from regular guacamole. You'll also feel great about knowing it's good for them. Serve with tortilla chips, or with cut-up veggie sticks for an even healthier snack.

This recipe makes about 3 cups of guacamole.


  • 3 small ripe avocados
  • 1 cup shelled frozen edamame
  • Juice of one lime
  • 2 or 3 dashes Tabasco sauce (this small amount won't make it spicy but will add great flavor)
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 6 to 8 cherry tomatoes (optional)

How to Make Healthier Guacamole

1. Boil the frozen edamame in half a cup of water for 3 to 4 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water to cool the beans. Add to the bowl of food processor.

2. Cut avocadoes in half, remove the pits and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh. Then, add it to the food processor bowl.


3. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl. Using the pulse button of your food processor, blend the mixture until it reaches your desired consistency (I like to leave it a bit chunky but you may prefer it on the smoother side).

4. Taste the guacamole to see if it needs a dash more salt or pepper, adding as needed.

5. Serve with tortilla chips.
